The everyday use and acceptance of electric vehicles depends on the widespread availability of charging facilities. Various charging concepts are required for the expansion of the charging infrastructure and are being tested in detail by the operators of charging station networks. High-voltage safe current and voltage measurements must be carried out at many points. The following example shows how this can be done.
Verifying the interaction of different converters and power electronics in charging stations and different types of vehicles requires measurements at many points along the entire charging chain.
Long charging times and an insufficient number of charging points hinder the use electric vehicles. For this reason, different charging systems are being developed to meet different needs, particularly to promote the expansion of the charging infrastructure. Vehicle manufacturers are advertising their vehicles with ever shorter charging times, but the different charging stations have to be validated or further optimized to provide the best possible performance.
Measurement task
Current, voltage and power measurement in the entire loading chain to optimize the systems.
For the verification of charging stations, current, voltage and power have to be measured in the entire charging chain, whereby different charging characteristics have to be tested by changing vehicle types. This allows the charging functions and the different load conditions to be investigated. Current, voltage and power must be measured on the input and output side to the charging station in the high-voltage lines.
The HV Breakout Modules allow HV-safe installation in the high-voltage cables of the charging station and in the high-voltage on-board power supply system of vehicles. All relevant analysis data can be calculated in real-time.
XCP-Gateway is the interface between the data acquisition software (e. g. vMeasure, CANape®, INCA®, Vision® ...) and the EtherCAT® measurement modules from CSM. It includes an EtherCAT® master and an XCP-on-Ethernet slave.
The HV Breakout Module (BM) Type 3.1 is suitable for three-phase current, voltage and power measurement at three-phase charging stations with HV voltage carrying cables with currents up to ±32 A.
The HV Breakout Modules (BM) Type 1.2 have been specially designed for safe and precise single-phase measurement in separated HV+ and HV- power cables. Inner conductor current and voltage are measured directly and the instantaneous power is calculated in the module.
The HV Breakout Module (BM) type 1.1 has been specially designed for safe and precise single-phase measurement in single HV voltage power cables. Inner conductor current and voltage are measured directly and the instantaneous power is calculated in the module.
vMeasure, developed by Vector Informatik, is an easy-to-use software tool for the acquisition and analysis of measurement data that can be used in combination with all CAN- and EtherCAT®-based CSM measurement modules. CSMconfig was integrated directly to ensure swift configuration.
Swift configuration of measurement chains: CSMconfig is the reliable configuration software for all CAN and EtherCAT® based measurement modules from CSM. The clearly arranged and easy-to-use user interface allows an easy setting of all measurement parameters. This helps speeding up the measurement setup considerably.
